Advanced Clinical Education in Mold, Mast Cell & Biotoxin Illness

With Dr. Margaret Christensen, MD and Dr. Gail Clayton, DCN

Clinical education for physicians, nutritionists, and functional medicine practitioners who care for mold-exposed and biotoxin-affected patients. Explore practitioner-focused articles, professional courses in mold illness, mast cell disorders, autoimmunity, and functional biochemistry, and continuing education built from years of clinical teaching.

From the Learning Center

Practitioner Articles

Clinical perspectives on evaluating the mold-exposed patient, interpreting immune markers, sequencing treatment, and caring for highly reactive patients.

Patient Assessment

How to Evaluate the Mold-Exposed Patient

Build the exposure timeline, complete a sound standard workup, and understand what urine mycotoxins, CIRS biomarkers, and other specialized tools can and can’t establish.

Interpreting Labs

Interpreting TGF-Beta and Immune Patterns in Mold Illness

How to read TGF-beta 1, MMP-9, C4a, and related marker clusters as context markers, track trends rather than single values, and avoid overinterpretation.

Treatment Sequencing

The Order of Operations in Complex Mold and Biotoxin Illness

A flexible sequencing framework, from exposure and elimination to stabilization, binders, colonization, and repair, plus why adding one change at a time matters.

Sensitive Patients

Managing the Highly Sensitive Mold Patient: MCAS and Reactivity

Differentiating MCAS from other causes of reactivity, stabilizing before escalating, low-and-slow dosing, and designing a plan the patient can actually tolerate.

Understanding TGF-Beta in Mold Illness

What This Immune Marker Reveals About Inflammation, Glutathione, and Immune Balance

A concise guide by Dr. Gail Clayton on what TGF-beta 1 is, how it connects to glutathione and oxidative stress, why it appears so often in mold-related illness, and why a single result should never be interpreted in isolation.

Courses & Educational Guides

Self-paced courses and in-depth guides that go deeper than the articles.

Mold Detox Diet

Foundational education in nutrition, lifestyle strategies, and supporting patients navigating mold-related illness.

Mold, Mast Cells, & Autoimmunity

Advanced education exploring mold-related immune dysfunction, mast cell activation, histamine intolerance, and autoimmunity.

Hormonal Havoc: The COVID Fallout

Practitioner Course with Dr. Gail Clayton

Advanced Training in Organic Acids Interpretation

Move beyond flagging high and low markers. This course teaches healthcare practitioners to read organic acid patterns through nutritional biochemistry and metabolic pathways, recognize mitochondrial dysfunction and nutrient cofactor needs, connect results to metabolic dysfunction, and apply clinical interpretation to complex cases.

Continuing education: approved by BCNS and ANA for up to 5.5 CE credits for Certified Nutrition Specialists. Check with your licensing board.

New Educational Library

COVID Fallout Resources

Many patients with mold and biotoxin illness are also navigating Long COVID. Our COVID Fallout Resources hub brings together carefully written articles on spike protein, brain fog and POTS, mast cell activation and viral reactivation, hormones, and functional therapies, with clear notes on what research has established and what is still being studied.
